I am contemplating writing an essay about all the changes in my life and how I’ve learned to adjust to them.
I realize that with every life change, I have to recognize it, experience it, and learn from it. I find that sometimes I need to shift my thinking about someone or something according to any lessons I’ve learned, so I am going to use the analogy of the earth’s shifting Plates.
I remember a tiny bit from Middle School Science class, and know that when the earth’s plates shift, they can cause earthquakes and volcanic activity, but that’s about all the data that this old gal’s science chip has stored on it.
So I Google “shifting earth plates” and click on a link and begin to read. I read the page several times searching for the right words and the scientific connection between the earth’s shifting plates and my shifting life. I read it again.
Gosh, I thought it was a pretty simple concept, but this stuff is kind of . . . technical.
Impatient and frustrated, I conclude that my brain just isn’t able to absorb this. Maybe I don’t even HAVE a science chip!
I am just about to exit the page when I see this small disclaimer, printed in a pretty little blue box:
“Our subscribers’ grade-level estimate for this page: 5th -6th”
Are you kidding me? I am SO screwed! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Tell me . . . “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?”

Gosh, this is a great post, Julia! Apparently, I’m NOT smarter than a 5th grader. That’s sad isn’t it? Guess you need to adjust your notion about what it means to think like a less-than-5th-grader. Good luck with the essay.
Hugs,
Kathy
Thanks for reading, Kathryn! I think I may have used up the shifting plates idea. ha ha. The research became the story! lol Take care and ((hugs)) back to you and yours. xoxo Julia
When people talk about shifting plates, I would normally assume they are talking about the waiter or waitress in a diner.
ha ha ha! Really? How interesting! I never thought of that! Thanks for reading and thank you so much for the comment. You’ve made me smile and given me food for thought….lol Take care! xoxo
Cute story!
Thanks, Mary. I suppose I really shouldn’t admit such things, but heck, girl, I’ve owned up to much worse! ha ha! Take care and thanks so much for reading! xoxo Julia
Dear Julia, most of the people had practical lessons when the “Tsunami’s” happened which is based on the shifting of the the earth plates. Animals feel it before and escape. This sense is gone with the human beeings since we depend on technics today…and in Thailand and Japan etc. it was to late. I like your analogy with life…you have to check your “inner seismograph” very well so that you can act and escape in time before the full catastrophy is there and you have no way out any longer. It looks to me that you have your “seismograph” under control and can act in time before it’s to late. I had to laugh in regard to the “earthcrust”….some people have different “crusts”…the thickness you find how they act in specific situations….i.e. if they explode like a vulcano or not…! Congrat to your story which I like very much. Alfred
Alfred! Maybe you should be writing this story! ha ha ha! Obviously you HAVE A SCIENCE CHIP! ha ha! I don’t! I couldn’t make heads or tails of all that talk! ha ha ha! Thanks for taking the time to read my stuff and for your wonderful response. xoxo Julia
Julia, hope you feel better. It’s so true how we, the earth and many other things shift in our lives. Sometimes we have to take another look at our lives or the people/friends in our lives and make adjustments because of the constant shifts. Getting older, certain life altering events, and people can change our thoughts or feelings on a dailey basis. My simple solution to such changes is to follow my heart, instinct and intuition. And by doing so, we’ve come a long way and did good. Thanks again for the thought provoking blog. Makes you wonder about life and people sometimes.
Gosh, Kim, thank YOU so much for your reflections on this. You always seem to understand what I’m talking about…and I appreciate that alot. Life is constantly shifting isn’t it? One event after another. People change or behavior changes or life changes and we have to adjust…to change how we think about them so we don’t keep feeling hurt. It’s all so tenuous. I like your advice too, “follow my heart, instinct, and intuition”. Wise words. Take good care, my friend, and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this. xoxo Julia
Hahaha, I will leave the answer to that question un-answered! Actions speak louder than words & some days actions may prove one answer different than the day priors answer! Luv it, XO!
ha ha ha! Thank you, Joanie! You are so funny! And your words are so true as they apply to me as well! ha ha! Can you imagine my surprise when I read that disclaimer? I actually laughed out loud! Take care and thanks so much for reading and leaving your humor behind for me to enjoy! xoxo Julia
Scientific analogies are interesting. I love astronomy and the ocean yet I know only a small amount of each. Change is inevitable. It is how we cope with and adapt to it that causes struggles at times. I am presently dealing with new health treatment options for kidney condition and I have a morbid fear and tremendous resistance about it, but I am trying to work through it. The fear of the unknown and the concerns that I really do not want to go through it,yet maybe just some greater knowledge will provide the best decision for me. Others have their opinions yet I am the final decision maker and what makes me accepting of my own choices.
Lady D., thank you so much for reading. I’m wishing you the best of luck with your condition and your treatment. Please know that you have friends here who care and are willing to listen. xoxo Julia
Thanks so much Julia! I just attended a seminar this morning for 2 hours regarding one of several options. The support is comforting as is the kindness.
Also thanks for your post on my blog’s “Inspiration!” xoxo Denise-Lady D.
