About me & my journey

In this blog I bear my soul. I’ve suffered some rather tramatic family losses in my lifetime and have overcome some rough stuff: the loss of my only child; an infant son,  a 40-year dysfunctional, (but comfortable), relationship with grief, suicide and drug addiction in the family, and everything from quitting a 35 yr smoking habit, to overcoming prescription drug addiction, to my challenges with bipolar disorder. smiling glasses allieGOOD

Now, at the age of 54, I’m facing a whole new world through clear eyes! Everything is fresh and exciting, and challenging and scary . . . and I’m embracing it all!

In this blog, I share (purge) my past experiences, however painful, raw, or revealing. And I share new adventures . . . both emotionally and physically out in the world. I take you into the world of bipolar disorder . . . or maybe to the local cancer center to meet cancer patients who heal through their art, or to an art gallery exhibition, to the local park to snap pics, or maybe downtown to our wonderful City of Detroit!

I’m on the cusp . . . of change.

I believe in celebrating the people and places around me. I will seldom vent, rant, or approach something in a negative way. If I don’t enjoy an art show, or a new business, or a new artist, I simply won’t blog about it. Anything else is just too easy. I look for the good, the funny, the kind, the loving, and the inspirational things; and they are EVERYWHERE! I hope to make you laugh, or cry, or maybe even think about things a bit differently.

So, please, join me on this beautiful, incredible, painful, and amazing journey called life. And please, share your thoughts with me by leaving a comment on my blog! Also, to “Follow” me on my journey, just enter your email address in the “Follow” box and you will be notified by email each time I post a new blog entry.

Thanks for visiting! Be safe. Be careful. And please . . . remember to be kind. xoxoJulia

“Living each day with kindness, compassion, inspiration, and humor”, if only everyone would live by this sentiment, what a wonderful world it would be. Your neighbor, Laura

  2. Thanks, Laura! It’s nice to have you as a new neighbor and a new reader! Take care! xo

So nice to have met you Julia! You are a kind soul. Great idea with the blog. Will stay in touch with you.

    • Hi Susan! So wonderful to see you here! I was just thinking about you! I hung my new piece of art on the fence surrounding my small patio and newly created “Zen Den”. It’s the first contribution of art and I LOVE it! You will see it appear one day when I blog about Detroit art and the inspiring artists around every corner of that beautiful city….or maybe a piece about something else. lol I just never know where I’m going these days! lol Meeting you was a perfectly lovely way to wrap up a sad and heavy day. You were a splash of sunshine for me! Thank you! I hope to speak with you again soon. (p.s. I’m still thinking about that dress! lol). Thanks so much for reading and dropping me a note to let me know you stopped by. I’m not surprised though, because it’s a very kind thing to do and I think I already know that’s your way! xoxo Julia

    • Thanks, Susan! I will hold you to that! Thanks again for reading and dropping me a note. It was a wonderful gift meeting you! You’re a really special lady! xo Julia

  4. Funny and smart is a great combination!
I laughed out loud at your descriptions of menopause and grit my teeth at your therapist’s insensitivity. You are beautiful, your hair is divine and you have pretty eyes with a great smile.

    • And you are waaaaay too kind! Thank you so very much! And thanks for reading my blog. I really appreciate it and for you taking the time to leave such a lovely note. You just made me smile….so big. Thanks Elroy! xoxo Julia

  12. Ms. Julia, If you would go to the page this link ( http://www.maradjenscreations.com/ ) leads to, and scroll down the page to the comment box, you can send me a message directly. Please give me your email address, and if you are on yahoo messenger, I would be humbly honored to add you to mine.

I don’t really spend much time chatting right now, as I am rather tied up with trying to get two online stores up and running, one of which is the site that link leads to. I am also creating items to sell and trying to finish and edit the fifteen books that I currently am working on.

I…well…I try to stay busy with tasks that will produce positive results…it helps with the mania and depression both. The more I can ‘lock in’ on a project, the less the symptoms have a chance of ganging up on me.

Ma’am, I also could use a friend, for I, quite literally, have none in the ‘real world’, and very few that I would count as such online.

If you would be interested, I have written several blogs about living bi-polar here on WordPress. Two of my current stories are also on here…well, the beginning parts are! I sort of kind of got ‘a weensie bit sidetracked” with setting up the store and creating the things to sell.

I will keep you in my thoughts, and I hope we can ‘meet’ soon, via either email or messenger.

    blessed be, dear lady,

    maradjen

  13. Thanks you for the follow; it brought me here and now I’m following you because your posts are loving and up-lifting. (As I imagine you are :~) * Where would I find ‘Priceless Art’? I think it was called that. It was so poignant, I wanted to see it again, and then couldn’t find it. Thanks.

    • Gosh, thank you! “Priceless Art” is in August. I’ve never had anyone remember a piece and ask to reread it. I feel so…..honored! lol Thank you. xoJulia

  14. I’m happy to honour your work; it is a powerful piece. The photo and words gave pause, which is important in these rushed times we live in. Thank you for helping me to find it again.

  15. passionwriting

    u have a wonderful blog…but i must say..u look nowhere near 52..!!!!

  16. Gosh, I just ADORE you! lol Be well, my lovely friend. xoJulia

  17. hello again, ms. julia, this is maradjen. i just wanted to pop in and let you know i still follow you. i would like to present you with something, but you will have to click on the links, as i do not know how to post it here on your page. the sentiment on the image comes straight from my heart….

    hugglz,

    maradjen

    • Thank you so much, Maradjen! This comes on a very emotionally upsetting day. You are like a little splash of sunshine who has just popped into my living room to lift my spirits. Thank you so much. I’m so sorry I’ve been negligent in keeping in touch with you….you know how life is sometimes. I’m currently grieving the loss of a dear friend and trying to wrap my brain around his absence. Another friend in hospice care with a dear but exhausted wife at his side. Life can be so tough sometimes…..I grab onto the small things, the wonderful small gestures and beautiful friendships, and I absorb and appreciate all they bring. You are a gift to my life and I’m so happy we’ve discovered each other! Thank you with all my heart. Love to you, girlfriend. xoxoJulia

  18. Ms. Julia,

Dear lady, I hope you will not mind, but I would like to share a few of my verses with you that I hope will comfort and uplift you in this time of sadness.

    Much love coming your way.

    Marantha

    THE LOST ONE

DEAREST LORD, MY POOR SOUL PLEADS
GIVE MY HEART THE COMFORT IT NEEDS.
MY LOVED ONE HAS COME HOME TO YOU,
LEAVING ME HEART BROKE AND BLUE.
SOMETIMES THEIR BELOVED VOICE I HEAR,
    FALLING SOFTLY ON MY EAR.
SOMETIMES A FAINT BREEZE WILL BLESS,
MY TEAR-STAINED FACE WITH FAINT CARESS.
MY CAREWORN HEART, ONCE SO LIGHT,
LIES NOW BROKEN AND BLACK AS NIGHT.
BUT THEN A RAY OF HOPE ENTERS MY SOUL,
LIFTING ME UP AND MAKING ME WHOLE,
FOR I KNOW MY LOST ONE, WHOM I LOVED TRUE,
HAS GONE HOME TO BE WITH YOU.
AND WHEN THIS EARTH I NO MORE ROAM,
I KNOW THAT YOU WILL BRING ME HOME.
THEN WITH MY LOVED ONES I WILL BE,
THEIR BELOVED FACES ONCE MORE TO SEE.

    DEDICATION

    THROUGH TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS,
THROUGH BOTH SAD AND JOYFUL TEARS,
MY WEARY SOUL HAS KNOWN THEM ALL,
    THROUGHOUT MY MANY YEARS.

THOUGH THE ROAD THAT I HAVE TRAVELLED,
    SOMETIMES HAS BEEN QUITE ROUGH,
GOD’S MOST GREAT AND GRACIOIUS GRACE,
SAW ME THROUGH WHEN TIMES WERE TOUGH.

BUT NOW MY LONG JOURNEY’S OVER,
MY LIFE TRAVELS NOW ARE THROUGH,
AND I PRAY, DEAR LORD, WITH MY LAST BREATH,
THAT I COME HOME TO YOU.

AND TO MY LOVED ONES LEFT BEHIND,
    THE FOLLOWING WORDS I LEAVE,
THAT THEY MIGHT SOMEHOW COMFORT YOU,
WHEN FOR MY LOSS YOU GRIEVE . . . .

“WEEP NOT FOR ME WHEN I DEPART,
THIS EARTHY VALE OF TOIL AND TEARS,
JUST KEEP MY MEMORY IN YOUR HEART,
AND I’LL BE WITH YOU THROUGH THE YEARS.

INSTEAD REJOICE THAT I AM FREE,
OF ALL PAIN I’VE FELT, ALL TEARS I’VE CRIED,
    AGAIN, REJOICE, FOR NOW ETERNALLY,
I’LL WALK ALONG THE MASTER’S SIDE.”

    SOLEMNLY

LORD, I COME BEFORE YOU NOW,
AS MY HEAD I HUMBLY BOW,
I KNOW THAT NONE COMPARES TO YOU,
I PRAY YOU’LL HELP MY DREAMS COME TRUE.

PLEASE WALK BESIDE ME EVERY DAY,
HELP ME TO HAVE THE WORDS TO SAY.
WHEN OTHERS JEER, AND MOCK, AND LAUGH,
PLEASE LET MY HEART NOT BE FILLED WITH WRATH.

KEEP ME HUMBLE, I PRAY YOU, PLEASE,
AS I KNEEL HERE ON BENDED KNEES.
LET ME DO THE BEST I CAN,
AND LET ME STICK CLOSE TO YOUR PLAN.

LET ME HELP THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED,
AND LET ME NOT BE CONTROLLED BY GREED.
LET ME DO GOOD AS LONG AS I LIVE,
FOR ANY WRONGS LET ME FORGIVENESS GIVE.

LET ME BE GENTLE, KIND, AND MEEK,
THAT I MIGHT FIND THE PEACE I SEEK.
THANK YOU FOR MY BREATH OF LIFE,
AND FOR KEEPING FROM ME ALL STRESS AND STRIFE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BLESSED SON,
WHO GUIDES AND PROTECTS FROM SUN TO SUN.
LET ME WALK CLOSE BY YOUR SIDE,
PLEASE BE MY COMFORTER, FRIEND, AND GUIDE.

    HEART TREASURE

I’VE A SPECIAL CHEST FULL OF TREASURE RARE,
AND MANY FINE THINGS ARE HIDDEN THERE.
THE LAUGHTER SPARKLING FROM A CHILD’S EYES,
WHEN THEY RECEIVE SOME SORT OF SURPRISE.
A HUG FROM A GOOD FRIEND MAKES MY HEART BRIGHT,
A KISS ON THE CHEEK CAN MAKE MY HEART LIGHT.
BUT BRIGHTEST OF ALL IS THE LOVE OF MY FRIENDS,
THEIR LOVE AND AFFECTION BRINGS TREASURES WITHOUT END.

    HOPE

WHEN LIFE BEGINS TO GET YOU DOWN,
AND YOU FEEL YOU CAN NO LONGER COPE,
JUST LOOK UP AT THE SKY ABOVE,
AND THERE YOU’LL FIND SOME HOPE.

YES, WHEN YOUR HOPES ARE SINKING,
    AND DEPRESSION YOUR MIND CROWDS,
REMEMBER, THOUGH THE SKIES BE DARK,
THE STARS STILL SHINE ABOVE THE CLOUDS.

JUST REMEMBER THIS ONE SMALL FACT,
ON YOUR HEART LET IT LEAVE ITS MARK,
‘AS LONG AS JUST ONE SMALL STAR SHINES,
IT IS NOT TOTALLY, COMPLETELY DARK.’

    OUR FATHER’S LOVE

I SIT AT NIGHT AND WATCH THE STARS,
    UP IN THE MIDNIGHT SKIES,
    SO BEAUTIFUL TO GAZE UPON,
THEY BRING TEARS TO MY EYES.

    I STAND BESIDE THE OCEAN,
    UPON THE SILENT SHORE,
    WAVES LAPPING AT MY FEET,
    WHO COULD ASK FOR MORE?

I GAZE UPON A SUNSET SKY,
THAT FILLS THE EARTH WITH FLAME,
IT LIGHTS THE WORLD WITH COLORS BRIGHT,
AND PUTS THE DAY TO SHAME.

    SO MUCH BEAUTY SURROUNDS US,
THOUGH SOMETIMES WE FORGET TO SEE,
THE WONDERS OF OUR GREAT GODS’ LOVE,
    SHOWN FOR YOU AND ME.

THE GREATEST PEACE THAT CAN BE FOUND,
IN THIS WORLD OF PUSH AND SHOVE,
IS TAKE A MOMENT TO LOOK AROUND,
    AND SEE OUR FATHER’S LOVE.

Ms. Julia, I hope that you enjoyed at least one or two of my humble sharings.

    blessings, dear lady,

    marantha

  30. That’s a great photo of you, Julia, so vibrant and full of life.

  31. Life is a Journey in which sadness and happiness walk along just as day and night walk along. So it is routine to have black as well as white, beauty and ugly, hot and cold, just take all it easy and enjoy your life, smile and all pains will be removed. To be worry in trouble just doubles your trouble but a smile will cut half your problem. Nice to see your blog about your life. Many people write books to save their travel account. I invented a new method. If you want to save memories of your travel & tour with pictuers, audio, satellite views, travel account, lyrics, etc. then have a look at my blog to see how to make downloadable video presentations:
