IF I CAN GET TO HEAVEN

I never bought a lunchbox MICHAELS WINGSwhiter

for your first day of school

or had a teacher conference

and saw artwork made by you.

.

You never graduated

or attended your first prom

you never got to marry

and you never called me mom.

.

We had just a whisper

and then you slipped away

I try my best to honor you

by living better every day.

.

If I can get to heaven

after paying my life dues

I will rush right into heaven

and find my way to you.

.

If I can get to heaven

I hope that God agrees

that I belong in heaven

with you right next to me.

YOUR GIFT

I am thinking of you so far away.

You must be sleeping now.

Snoring and alone – waiting for me to place myself inside your arms.

Your sounds comfort and reassure me.

I long for you.

What you have given me . . .

– more than the food I eat

or the greeting cards I read

– more than the things we plan

or where we decide to meet

– more than the gifts you give

or the way you make me feel

You have given me something I can cling to . . .

hope

IN A GARDEN . . . AS IN LIFE

We don our gardening boots and floppy hat

and brave the sweaty burning sun.

.

With aching knees and blackened hands

we love the dirt

that nourishes all our promises.

.

From the coldest winds

and driest heat

we protect our unborn bulbs

with acceptance

and a smile.

.

And long before she bursts open

and into glorious song

already we are in love

with the dream.

.

In a garden . . . as in life

our toiling makes no guarantee

of fairness or reward

.

but we do it anyway . . . on faith.

.

And sometimes . . . we are allowed

to glimpse

the gloriousness of a precious petal

only to have it

.

quickly fall away.

.

That is when

we must close our eyes

to see the flower.

LEAF TEARS upclose

Dedicated to all Mothers suffering the loss of a child.

WALK OUT OF THE DARKNESS

This poem was inspired by last year’s experience at the “Out of The Darkness Community Walk”, which benefits The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, (see my blog: http://wp.me/p2ckKM-gC). FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THIS YEAR’S WALK (OCT 13th, 2013) OR TO MAKE A DONATION, PLEASE VISIT: http://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=2358. Thank you.

You’re hurt and bruised, feeling empty and used

You think you’re lost and you know you’re confused

Your problems are different from mine

But if you need it, I’ll give you my time.

*

You’ve found your voice, but you don’t know the words

You’re screaming for help, but you still feel unheard

You just want your pain to end

Come take my hand, my friend.

*

And Out of The Darkness together we’ll walk

I’ll be the listener who hears when you talk

We’ll reach out for comfort and learn how to cope

We’ll walk Out of The Darkness . . . and into the hope.

A HALLOWEEN DREAM

(I don’t care much for Halloween. But in the spirit of going with the flow and learning to laugh at life, I decided to try to make the best of it this year. All of the pics in this blog were taken while out driving yesterday with Patti Petroline; dear friend, great adventurer, and carver of pumpkins).

*************************************************************************************************************

We’ll have a full moon the TV said

but I stayed home cuz I was dead

I watched a movie called Pumpkin Head

and then I ate and went to bed.

*

My B.L.T. caused crazy dreams

and transported me it seems

to scary skies with sugar beams

I’m just not sure what it all means.

*

I saw a tree

*

a goat

*

a sign

*

Was this all caused by how I dined?
*

And then a barn

*

my dog

*

a friend of mine?

*

Whew! It all ended just in time.
*

Thankfully, I did awake . . . or did I make a bad mistake?

My body hurts and my head sure aches. Oh, my gosh . . . for goodness sakes!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, GOBLINS! Xoxo

NEW YORK CITY LOVE

Our journey shared flew quickly by

yet is frozen still in time

Our journey shared was here and gone

but is forever yours and mine.

 *

This love I know is new to me

and is for things I had not dreamed

This love I know for everything

was waiting to be freed.

 *

A place can change a person

and I became a part

I will carry you inside me

and I will wear you in my heart.

A BRILLIANT STAR

A brilliant star was plucked from the night

but Heaven got brighter

Can that be right?

I think of you and I understand why

You’re making God smile

and it lights up the sky!

THE MISSING HOUR

Embrace the day

clouds and blue

feeling life

no thoughts of you

*

The sun goes orange

and fades to grey

embrace the calm

remains of day

*

It’s when the blue

fights with the night

my heart aches with

lack of might

This missing hour . . . eternity

until, my love, you’re next to me.

PRICELESS ART

Another day, another loss . . . all great love has a cost.

Please remember just to breathe, as you take this time to grieve.

*

Life is our gift from God above, and He blesses it with love.

Some folks say these gifts don’t last, but God won’t rob us of our past.

These blessings that we receive come with no special guarantees.

One day here, gone tomorrow . . . one day joy, the next, great sorrow.

*

You won’t see that face again?

Just close your eyes, my troubled friend.

God’s gifts will never leave your heart

your memories are your priceless art.

One of the few pics I have of all the Kovach kids. It’s hard to believe that Teri, Chris, and Steve have all passed on. These memories are my priceless art.

(Pic: Teri w/arms around Joe and Brenda; Chris next to her, holding Steve’s hand; me, off to the side, holding Steve’s other hand).
